Web Development

SJPR creates custom, hand-coded websites. We start by meeting with clients to discuss their design ideas, the information they need to convey, and their target audience. After the initial meeting, clients receive a test URL (website address) where progress on their website’s construction can be viewed in real time. This means they can send us edits early and often using our ticketing system, thus moving the process along more quickly. After development is complete, we meet with clients for a final look, making edits before the website goes LIVE.

As businesses change and grow, their websites should, too. We make editing easy with our email ticket process which allows customers to send us a “ticket” for each needed change. Because coding isn’t everyone’s forte, we include website edits in the cost of hosting. We happily make edits to your website throughout the year as we receive your tickets.

At SJPR, we hand-code our websites because the best products are made with love. Seriously, our websites are developed with Astro and hosted as a static site on Microsoft Azure. Static websites have the advantage of lower upkeep cost and the fastest load times possible, which means higher rankings with Google and other search engines. Microsoft Azure’s secure hosting network creates the gold standard in tooling across all our sites. Live metrics allow us to keep track of the health and activity of your site, provide detailed analytics and provide a 99.5% SLA.

We also offer custom web applications, forms, and databases. And we are happy to create applications for existing websites. Interested in a custom website for your business or organization? Email us at info@sjpr.us for a quote.

Do I really need a website?

Yes, you really do!

A website is your full-time marketing employee. It’s a 24/7 repository of information, explaining exactly what your business does, how you do it, and why customers should choose you instead of your competitor. It permanently hosts the information you need to convey to current and potential clients. With a website, your audience will never have to dig to find when you’re open, what services you offer, or what special events you may be hosting.

A website is your presence on the Internet that YOU control. On social media, anyone can write anything they like about your company. Your overall score on a review website can plumet based on a review from one unreasonable customer. When SJPR finishes a site, the final product is owned by the client. Our website copy – the words on the page – can be used freely by clients for brochures, radio advertisements, and on social media.

Can’t anyone make a website?

You can. We encourage anyone with free time and some spare cash to make their own site. It can be a fun, creative endeavor like painting or making music. Build - it- yourself website creators such as Wix, WordPress, and Squarespace offer fill-in templates to create a cookie-cutter website that can be helpful when sharing your hobby or showing off your portfolio of work. For example, we’re fans of https://www.buttercupisaverygoodgirl.com/. But using website builders as a cost- cutting measure when starting a business or organization has drawbacks that often are not obvious in the beginning. Generally, you’re paying less on the front end to lose money over time.

As you grow past a starter website, it can be difficult or impossible to move your content from one hosting platform to another. A website that is created and hosted by GoDaddy or Web.Com, for example, cannot be exported and put onto another web hosting service. The domain – the name of your website – can be transferred. But the actual design and layout will be lost. That’s not the case with SJPR.

If you’re a small business intent on growing, you will grow out of Wix, Squarespace, and Shopify. WordPress is easier to scale, but you’ll need access to better and more expensive plugins. Plugins are individual services that extend the functionality of your site. These plugins can be hard to use for the traditional consumer and often require someone with an eye for design or technical expertise to connect different services. Although many are free, you may find yourself slowly buying more and more plugins to expand your business’s capabilities, adding up to more long-term costs, and time.

Looking to start small? SJPR offers templated websites for new organizations looking for the basics before diving into large scale digital marketing. This allows our designers and writers to create sites that are not only affordable, they’re correctly sized for your individual businesses and can grow with you.

Writing and Marketing

Most business owners are passionate about what they do for a living, but often need support when it comes to marketing. Who are your customers and what are their needs? How do you communicate with one another, and are you doing it enough?

Our words matter. Never have there been more ways to reach out to customers, yet never have there been more distractions or opportunities for miscommunication. It is vital for your content to resonate with viewers, provide the information they seek, and for your business to remain top of mind.

We offer:

• Newsletter/email marketing: These targeted campaigns strengthen customer engagement by informing clients about your company’s activities, including sales, new product promotions, or recognition.

• Press Releases: These official statements from your organization are delivered to members of the news media and provide information regarding the who, what, when, where, and why of an event. Journalists can then use this piece as a jumping off point for their own story or insert it directly into a newspaper. These often prompt interviews and more in-depth coverage.

• Writing for Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO: This style of writing, which uses specific methods for improving a website’s ranking in search engine listings makes a webpage more visible when searching the Internet.

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is many things: a toolkit, a job title, and a long-term commitment. It’s the process of making a website more visible for search engines like Google. Good SEO moves a website higher in rankings when individuals search using specific words. When searching for something specific, less than 1% of Internet users look at the second page of Google, so your website needs to top the list.

SEO is a multifaceted concept, but there are three types of SEO: on-page, off-page, and technical. On-page SEO focuses on optimizing the elements within a webpage for search engines, such as keywords, meta tags, and images. Off-page SEO consists of activities done off your website, such as a reputable webpage linking to yours or being mentioned on those sites. Technical SEO involves making the site easier for crawl-bots to index the site, such as increasing the site’s loading speed and ensuring it’s optimized for mobile.

Building a site well and with SEO in mind should be standard business practice. Alt-text and building your website for accessibility leads to higher SEO. Designing the website for mobile use leads to higher SEO. Writing with the right keywords and key phrases from the onset of the website launching leads to higher SEO.

We structure our websites around good SEO practices from the beginning and offer ongoing SEO optimization. Our SEO expert Tim works with our writing team to determine the best use of keywords for individual websites. Our writers may use blog posts, technical articles, the front page of a website, and other types of writing to best flag a website for search engines.

SEO is an ongoing process that requires regular updates. If you need help with your rankings, reach out to us today to learn more and find out if our SEO services are right for you.
